Abstract

Increasingly, new data sources are becoming available to official Statistics. This comes when modern technologies are available to support data integration. Data integration can produce timelier, more disaggregated statistics at higher frequencies than traditional approaches alone. This paper enumerates the potential future possibilities of developing new official statistics by using new data sources like big data, commercial and transactional data, sensor data, e.g., satellite images, tracking data from e.g. mobile telephones or GPS, behavioral e.g., online search and opinions, e.g., comment on social media, etc., and see how they could be used for official statistics in this digital era in Africa
