Abstract
The presentation will examine the benefits and practicalities of working with some types of non-Government actors for the success of modern National Statistical Systems (NSSs), particularly for establishing virtuous cycles for official statistics, driving innovation, and accessing skills and data. It will reflect on lessons about working with academia, NGOs, and international organisations from the development of the African Roadmap for the Transformation and Modernisation of Official Statistics, the PARIS21/UNICEF Toolkit for Mainstreaming Child Rights into official statistics planning, and the presenter's recent experiences in supporting strategy development in a range of countries and organisations. It will then explore the general implications for the design process for National Strategies for the Development of Statistics (NSDSs) and how the ISI and its members can support better cross-sectoral working.
