Abstract

Communicating statistics effectively remains a challenge. In this keynote, I will explore what makes statistical communication work—and how we can measure its impact. We will look at how framing and the way we communicate uncertainty affect audiences’ understanding, trust and decision-making. To ground these ideas, I will share two examples where theory meets practice: Maths for Life, a children’s book that makes abstract concepts concrete for young readers, and Graph Police, a research project that investigates how to battle misleading graphs. Expect a playful session with serious content: showing how fun, clarity, and rigor can go hand in hand when we communicate statistics.
