Abstract
The ongoing digital transformation is reshaping global data dissemination, analysis, and utilization. As digital technologies advance, traditional methods of sharing official statistics are increasingly insufficient to meet the demands of a fast-paced, data-driven society. The digital transformation of official statistics must do more than simply disseminate data; it must actively facilitate its use. This shift makes the transformation of data dissemination systems crucial for enhancing accessibility, usability, and interactivity.
In response to the growing demand for more efficient and transparent data communication, the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) has upgraded its open data portal, EVDS (Electronic Data Delivery System). This upgrade ensures that statistical information is not only accessible but also actionable, supporting real-time and reliable decision-making. Interactive visual tools, personalized data access, data visualizations, machine-readable services, and real-time release calendars empower users to interact with, explore, analyze, and derive meaningful insights from the data.
As digital tools evolve, the importance of statistical literacy becomes increasingly evident. The upgraded EVDS promotes statistical literacy by enabling intuitive data exploration and interpretation, while also supporting advanced analytical use. Through API key access and REST-based web services, EVDS allows users to integrate official statistics directly into their applications, analytical workflows, and automated systems, fostering reproducible analysis and informed data use.
This paper examines how digital transformation modernizes statistical systems, highlighting the evolution of EVDS from a traditional data dissemination tool into a comprehensive statistical communication product. Ultimately, the case of EVDS underscores the crucial role of digital transformation in making official statistics more accessible, usable, and impactful, aligning with the needs of a modern digital society. Furthermore, it explores the broader implications of this transformation for central banks and national statistical agencies globally. As governments increasingly rely on data to shape policy, tools like EVDS are essential in promoting transparency, trust, and informed governance.
