Abstract

Official statistics are fundamental to evidence-based decision-making, effective governance, sound policy formulation, and sustainable development. However, the growing demand for timely, relevant, accessible, and high-quality data calls for stronger collaboration across the data ecosystem, particularly among national statistical offices (NSOs), academia, and the private sector. This presentation examines how strategic partnerships among these actors can strengthen the production, analysis, dissemination, and use of official statistics. It explores the complementary roles of NSOs in ensuring statistical integrity, methodological rigour, and public trust; academia in advancing statistical methods, research, innovation, and capacity development; and the private sector in leveraging technological innovation, alternative data sources, and analytical capabilities. The presentation highlights opportunities for collaborative research, data sharing, skills development, statistical innovation, and the integration of diverse data sources to respond to emerging information needs. It also considers the institutional, technical, and governance challenges that may constrain effective collaboration, including data access, confidentiality, interoperability, and the alignment of priorities. Ultimately, the presentation advocates for a structured and sustainable framework of engagement that fosters trust, mutual accountability, and knowledge exchange, positioning NSOs, academia, and the private sector as complementary partners in building a more integrated, responsive, and inclusive data ecosystem to inform public policy and advance sustainable development.
