Establishment, Implementation and Practice of Teaching Statistical Consulting at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte
Abstract
Statistical consulting has been consolidating itself as an essential practice for scientific research and problem-solving in different areas of knowledge, requiring technical and interpersonal skills from professionals. Although courses of this nature are already part of the curriculum at international universities, in Brazil, the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) stands out by including in the initial years university outreach curricular components focused on the practical training of statistical consultants. This article presents the process of establishing statistical consulting courses in the UFRN Bachelor's Degree in Statistics program, describing its curricular structure, teaching methodologies, and key results obtained. The experience highlights the development of technical and collaborative skills among students and suggests pathways for other higher education institutions in the country to adopt similar initiatives, expanding practical and interdisciplinary training in the field.
