Delegates of the 65th ISI World Statistics Congress are urged to read and follow the below instructions for Visa Applications.

Visa Application Timeline
Please be aware that Visa Applications take time to process. Further delays should be expected for applications submitted near to the summer months, due to reduced staffing. Visa Applications can be submitted 6 month prior to Congress. You can download your Visa Support Letter from the registration system.

Trouble with Visa Applications
If you have submitted your application, but have not received your confirmation, you can Track your Visa Application
If you are experiencing delays with your Visa confirmation, this could be because: 

  • Your application is impacted by high volume
  • Your application requires further consideration 
  • You need to provide additional documents 

If your Visa Application is denied, please refer to the government advice here.

Please be aware that ISI is not permitted to communicate with the Government of The Netherlands regarding applications. Communication must be made directly between the applicant and the Government of The Netherlands.


Getting to The Hague

By Air
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) – The main international airport, about 45 minutes from The Hague by direct train.
Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTM) – A smaller airport with mainly European connections, about 30 minutes by taxi or public transport.

By Train
The Hague has two main railway stations: Den Haag Centraal and Den Haag HS, both with fast connections to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and other European cities via high-speed trains (Thalys/Eurostar).

For planning your travel with public transport within the Netherlands, you can use the Dutch railway website ns.nl or 9292ov.nl.

Getting Around

Public Transport
The Hague offers an extensive network of trams and buses operated by HTM. OV-chipkaart or contactless bank card payments are accepted.

Cycling
The Netherlands is famous for its cycling infrastructure. Rental bikes and e-bikes are widely available.

Taxis & Rideshare
Taxis are available at stations and can be booked by phone or app; rideshare services such as Uber also operate.


Language & Currency

Language: Dutch is the official language, but English is widely spoken.
Currency: Euro (€). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted; contactless payments are common.


Weather in October

October in The Hague is mild but unpredictable (average 10–15°C / 50–59°F). We advise bringing a jacket, umbrella, and possibly warmer clothing in case of chilly, wet weather.


Time Zone

The Netherlands operates on Central European Summer Time (CEST) in early October (UTC+2).


Emergency & Safety

General emergency number: 112 (police, ambulance, fire)
The Hague is a safe city, but as in any urban area, keep an eye on your belongings in busy places.


Electricity

The Netherlands uses Type C and F plugs, 230V supply voltage, and 50Hz frequency.
