Engagement between statistical producers and users is key to ensure the quality of official statistics and their effective use. During this innovative meeting, a panel of statistics' users and producers will discuss the potential to improve agility in statistical production, challenges and opportunities arising from the changing statistical data landscape, and the potential for partnerships between users and compilers for effective policy design. During the discussion we will seek to identify those elements and actionable insights that make for effective engagement.

The G20 Data Gaps Initiative (DGI) will serve as a case study to illustrate some of the success factors as well as the shortcomings in data producer-user engagement. The G20 DGI was launched in response to the global financial crisis of 2007-2008, which revealed several data gaps. Through its various work streams it seeks to address specific data gaps identified by the G20, spanning financial stability, international trade, public sector finance, nonbank financial intermediation, climate change, inequality, financial innovation and digital money.
