Environment and gender population dynamics: What is the nexus on global and regional level?
Conference
Proposal Description
Description: The session aims to bring together statisticians, data scientists, and experts from the public, private, and non-governmental sectors whose work lies at the intersection of environmental studies, social sciences, and data analysis. The proposed session will delve into the latest achievements in research on the application of advanced data analysis to better understand the nexus between the environment and climate change, on the one hand, and population dynamics (fertility, mortality, and migration), on the other. Special emphasis will be placed on the gender perspective and exploration of whether men and women are equally affected. The session will encompass three papers that aim to encapsulate different approaches to untangling the relationship between environmental and gender population dynamics. The session will present evidence and results at both the global and regional levels. The organization of the session is supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, Grant no. 7358, Population dynamics under environmental challenges in Serbia – POPENVIROS.
Participants of this session will gain insights into novel applications and case studies showcasing the application of causal inference, segmentation, time series analysis and other advanced methods of multivariate analysis. Additionally, presenters and participants might discuss ongoing research, identify challenges and propose potential solutions, all while providing a forward-looking perspective on the future trajectory of global and regional studies and conclusions.
The respective speakers, who will come from different countries and educational background, promise a presentation of scientific and statistical excellence with sense of practical implications, recommendations and suggestions for further research on the exploration on the impact environment has on the population dynamics of men and women.
Justification: The motivation for this session is to provide insights into the novel approached to analysing environmental and demographic data, as well as to raise awareness on the gender differences which might exist in the nexus. It is believed that the session will act as an impetus for further research and for the debate on future prospects and directions the field will take.
Intended Audience: It is hoped that the IPS will attract a wide audience. On the previous World Statistics Congress, the session chair organized IPS on the topics of multivariate analysis which was attended and attracted audience. Therefore, the proposed session will be a continuation of good practice from the previous congress which will add to the growing amount of knowledge on the topic of multivariate statistics, with a turn to environmental and demographic research now.
