  • Proposal Description

The papers will explore the following topics:
1 - Official statistics and the measures of inequalities
    Author: Etienne Caruana, NSO Malta
Focus: Data governance, harmonization, and methodological limits of existing inequality measures .
2 - Inequality, participation and democracy
Author: Luca Di Gennaro, University of Malta
Focus: How economic inequality translates into disparities in civic participation, trust, and democratic engagement.
3 – Evidence and new fuzzy measures of digital educational poverty
Author: Antonella D’Agostino, University of Siena
Focus: Fuzzy-set and multidimensional indicators of digital and educational deprivation.
4 – Observable dispersion in the distribution of primary income or gross wage at the regional level in the EU
Author: Ángeles Sánchez, University of Granada
Focus: Theil-based decomposition of pre-transfer income inequality at NUTS2, correlating with territorial and invisible inequalities.
The session welcomes both single-authored and co-authored contributions. Each of the four thematic papers can be presented individually or collaboratively, allowing authors to explore intersections across measurement, democratic participation, digital deprivation, and regional inequality. After the presentations, the session concludes with an open floor discussion, inviting participants to critically engage with the results, compare methodological approaches, and identify shared research challenges and future directions.
