Trusted Citizen Data in the AI Era: Quality, Ethics and Responsible Use
Conference
Category: International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS)
Proposal Description
Building on the Copenhagen Framework, this session will explore the intersection of citizen data, AI, ethics and data quality. It will argue that quality is not only a technical issue of accuracy, consistency and timeliness, but also a matter of trust, participation, transparency, protection from harm, accountability and fitness for purpose. The session will examine how the principles of the Copenhagen Framework can guide responsible AI use in citizen data initiatives, ensuring that innovation strengthens rather than weakens community participation, national ownership and public trust.
Participants will be invited to reflect on what “trusted citizen data” means in the AI era and what minimum principles, documentation practices and governance arrangements are needed to ensure that AI-enabled citizen data remains ethical, inclusive, high-quality and useful for official statistics, SDG monitoring and policy decision-making.
