Measuring Digital Platform Employment
Conference
Proposal Description
Digital platform employment (DPE) is a kind of work that is there to stay, changing the rules of the labour market and affecting, both in positive and negative way, the working conditions of involved persons. Extreme flexibility and easiness to connect to the working environment open several opportunities for people not close to the traditional market, for example for people living in areas far from urban environment. On the other side concerns with fake self-employed work relationships, the nature of small jobs, not always ensuring the expected stability, the high competition on the supply side, often faced by high concentration on the demand side, may creates poor working conditions. Measuring DPE is becoming a policy issue and the interest on this phenomenon is increasing.
Several initiatives, at national and international level, aimed to create a framework for measuring the DPE started around the world, the session aims to summarize the work done to build a milestone in measuring DPE.
