The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) of Mexico, the International Association of Official Statistics (IAOS) and the International Institute of Statistics (ISI) are pleased to announce the call for papers for the IAOS-ISI 2024 Mexico Conference Improving Decision-Making for All, to be held from the 15th to the 17th of May 2024 in Mexico City, Mexico.

The Conference aims to provide an environment where interested people and institutions can examine the current dilemmas around data and suggest ideas for producing statistical information that contributes to improving decision-making at every level, from policymakers to citizens. Thus, the Conference’s strands seek to trigger analysis and discussion on topics that highlight both the role of statistics as a valuable public good that all kinds of users can build on for various decision-making processes and the need to build a new social contract around data based on value and trust:

This strand will examine how new data demands offer opportunities for current and future statistical programs.

Leaving no one behind: Greater disaggregation and counting oversights

This strand will explore the best practices for fulfilling the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The new normal: Alternative data sources and new technologies

This strand will review how statistical offices and data users have adjusted to post-pandemic conditions.

NSOs in a data-rich world: Capacity building, data dissemination and statistical literacy

This strand seeks to bring to the limelight the multiple interactions ensuing within a complex data ecosystem, including issues on data stewardship, data sharing and legal frameworks.

Living the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics: Experiencies from NSOs

This strand proposes to display successful cases and examples in which countries and NSOs are applying the Fundamental Principles in their daily work.

Collaboration across boundaries: Data community and statistics research community coming together

This strand seeks to demonstrate the needs and best practices in how the statistical researchers and the data community, in the public and private sectors, work together to improve statistical literacy and decision-making.

Foundational work in statistics and data science: Better understanding and innovation in statistical research and decision-making

This strand aims to provide the platform for statistical researchers to exchange ideas and disseminate results and to promote innovative research in statistics and data science.
