The International Statistical Institute (ISI) is pleased to announce its Fifth Regional Statistics Conference (RSC), the first in Europe, to be held in Malta from 3 to 5 June 2026, hosted at the Valletta campus of the University of Malta. The conference will be preceded by short courses on 2 June, hosted at the Valletta campus, the Central Bank of Malta and the Malta National Statistics Office.
The RSC is a great opportunity to meet fellow statisticians and data scientists, not only from Europe and the Mediterranean area. Enjoy three days of discussions and networking in the fascinating Malta, ideally located in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea and well connected to many European countries.
The RSC will present Invited Paper Sessions (IPS) and Contributed Paper Sessions (CPS).
An Invited Paper Session (IPS) consists of either four 25-minute presentations or three 25-minute presentations followed by an official discussant. Each IPS proposal must include a brief description and rationale for the session, along with a list of confirmed speakers and presenters. Proposals will be evaluated based on scientific quality, potential impact, and overall diversity. Proposals can be submitted by any individual or organisation.
The IPS submission system opens on 1 September 2025 and closes on 1 November 2025.

The programme will cover the entire field of statistics, including academia, business, industry, government and official statistics, in line with the breadth of the ISI, its affiliated Associations and the other partners involved in the RSC. Topics include, but are not limited to, official statistics, survey statistics, environmental statistics, business and industrial applications of statistics, mathematical statistics, probability, statistics and data science, statistical education, statistical literacy, statistical computing and data visualisation. Emphasis will be placed on the interactions between statistics and data science with artificial intelligence. Contributions are expected in line with the ISI priorities: ethical and correct use of methods, advancement of knowledge and effective social impact.
Participants will also have the opportunity to experience the renowned hospitality of the Maltese people and to explore the island’s diverse cultural and natural heritage. From significant artistic works, such as Caravaggio’s paintings, to historic landmarks and scenic coastal landscapes, Malta presents a compelling environment shaped by centuries of cultural exchange. Its rich historical tapestry - marked by a unique fusion of civilisations, ancient architecture, and Mediterranean traditions—offers an inspiring and memorable setting. Remember that Malta is a very popular destination in early June, so book hotels and flights well in advance and attend this event!
Elisabetta Carfagna (University of Bologna, Italy) is the Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee and David Suda (University of Malta) is the Chair of the Local Organising Committee, while Monique Borg Inguanez (University of Malta) and Shabani Mehta (ISI Permanent Office) coordinate all activities.
We are looking forward to meeting many of you in Malta in June 2026!
