    Proposal Description

Risk is an inherent feature of modern societies, shaping decisions in health, economics, education, industry, and public policy. Yet, despite the diversity of contexts in which it arises, the fundamental challenge remains the same: how can statistical thinking help us understand uncertainty, anticipate adverse outcomes, and support more resilient responses?
Organized under the auspices of the Committee on Risk Analysis of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), this proposal of invited session aims to bring together researchers working at the interface between methodological developments and real-world applications of risk analysis. The contributions illustrate the breadth of contemporary risk research, ranging from the economic vulnerability of households exposed to macroeconomic shocks, to hidden risks in healthcare delivery, quality improvement in industrial settings, early detection of problems and risks in maritime context, and advanced stochastic modelling in insurance and actuarial science. By highlighting how statistical approaches can illuminate risks that are often complex, interconnected, and context-dependent, the session aims to foster dialogue across disciplines and encourage the exchange of ideas between theoreticians and practitioners. Together, these contributions demonstrate the continuing relevance of risk analysis as both a scientific discipline and a practical tool for understanding uncertainty and promoting informed, resilient action in an increasingly unpredictable world.
