  • Proposal Description

Many NSOs are given resources to produce data that are required by the SDG. To be most supportive of improving quality of life in their country, NSOs need to produce data for subnational areas and subpopulations. Current SDG only require production of national indicators, limiting their utility for guiding improvement efforts. As the UN moves to replace the SDGs at the end of this decade, what can we do to include subnational requirements into the new set of goals?

    Speakers:

UN Stat Commission expert on plans for updating the SDGs (possibly Haoyi Chen or someone else)

World Bank expert on how important it would be to have subnational indicators aligned with the SDGs

2 speakers from NSOs that have good to poor currently provided subnational estimates, discussing what improvements would be helpful

Discussant/Organizer: David Marker, Marker Consulting - expert on improving data collection in NSOs
